Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the student¢¥s behavioral responses toward to sexual harassment from patients and the consequential effects on patientstudent relationship in the psychiatric unit. The subjects of this study were 147 nursing students selected from 2 junior colleges and 2 nursing colleges. The data were collected by means of a self reported questionnare from Sep. 22 to Dec. 30, 1994. Data analysis included percentage, priority or-der, oneway ANOVA.

The results were as follows ;
The most frequently reported means of harassment was physical touch, sexual innuendo, over exhibition, etc. The behavioral responses were classified 5 types. Most of students responded by verval and physical limitation and passive behaviors such as escape from that situation and patience. The students responsed differently according to severity and type of sexual harassment. By these, 49.1% of all cases stopped sexual harassment. But there are only 1 desirable case. The other patients were with-drawn or not really understood. Clearly expressive response was most desirable effect on the patientstudent relationship.
